This backyard looks out over a golf course pond, so every part of it had to look good from the patio and from the fairway. We laid ivory travertine pavers in a grid with strips of artificial turf between them, which keeps the space bright and clean while breaking up the stone so it never feels like a hot slab.
Along the lap pool we planted a narrow bed against the stucco wall with climbing vines trained up the wall, low shrubs and path lights. On the fence side, turf runs right up to the iron fence so the view of the water stays open.
The side yards got the same treatment: travertine walks set into dark rock beds, with citrus trees kept in place and framed by the new hardscape. The result is a low-water yard that ties the pool, patio and golf course view together.
