Artificial Turf Installation Process

Proper installation of artificial turf is crucial to long-lasting results. While installation may seem simple from the outside, there are several critical steps that make all the difference in how your turf looks, drains, and performs over time. Cutting corners on any of these steps leads to wrinkles, poor drainage, weed growth, and premature wear. Our team follows a detailed, proven process on every installation to ensure your turf performs beautifully for 15-20 years.

Site Prep

Site preparation starts with excavation and grading to establish the final shape, direct the flow of water away from structures, and create a smooth, stable surface for the turf. We typically excavate 3-4 inches of existing soil and replace it with compacted decomposed granite or Class 5 aggregate to create a drainage layer that prevents water from pooling on the surface.

Once the base is graded and compacted, we install a commercial-grade weed barrier fabric to prevent any vegetation from growing up through the turf. These extra steps at the beginning of the installation process maximize the lifespan of your turf and prevent the most common issues we see with DIY or poorly executed installations.

Materials

Selecting the right combination of base rock, weed fabric, infill, and turf product will have a major impact on your artificial turf installation. This is why our team is here to guide you through the material selection process so you can choose the best options for your specific project and budget.

We offer a range of turf products with different pile heights, blade shapes, and color blends to match different applications. Landscape turf features taller, softer blades for a natural lawn appearance, while pet turf uses shorter, antimicrobial fibers designed for easy cleaning. Putting green turf has a dense, fast surface calibrated to simulate real golf conditions. For infill, we typically recommend Enviro-Fill or silica sand depending on the application.

Finishing

The finishing phase is where everything comes together. We carefully roll out the turf, trim it precisely to the borders of the installation area, and seam panels together using specialized adhesive and seaming tape. Each seam is placed strategically to be invisible once the turf is brushed and filled.

After the turf is secured, we spread the infill material evenly across the surface and power-brush the fibers to stand upright. The result is a natural-looking, properly weighted surface that stays in place through wind, rain, and heavy foot traffic. We do a final walkthrough with you to make sure every detail meets your expectations before we leave the job site.
