This backyard was nothing but bare, graded dirt, with a row of tall columnar cactus along the white fence. Every monsoon meant mud, and every dry week meant dust tracked into the house.
We covered the whole yard in fresh river rock so it stays clean, holds up to foot traffic and never needs water. The columnar cactus stay put as a living privacy screen along the fence line, and the rock ties the side yard and backyard together into one finished space.
