A steep grade beside this patio needed real structure. We built a tall block retaining wall with built-in block steps, giving the family a solid edge to the patio and an easy way up to the upper yard.
The top of the wall holds a planting bed, so the hydrangeas and shrubs above soften the wall and tie it into the garden.
